Plain-English summary
TopBuyers uses a small number of cookies to keep the site working, remember your preferences, and help us understand how the site is used (so we can make it better). We do not use cookies for advertising, do not sell your data, and do not share your details with marketing networks.
You can disable cookies in your browser at any time — though parts of the site (like staying logged in) won’t work without essential cookies.
Contents
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet or phone) when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember things — like whether you’re logged in, what page you came from, or your display preferences — between visits or pages.
We also use similar technologies including localStorage (a browser storage mechanism) and pixel tags (tiny invisible images that record when an email is opened). For simplicity, this policy refers to all of these collectively as “cookies”.
2. Categories of cookies we use
TopBuyers uses four categories of cookies. We do not use any advertising, retargeting or behavioural-marketing cookies.
🔒 Strictly necessary
Required for the site to function — login sessions, security tokens, form submissions. Cannot be disabled.
⚙️ Functional
Remember your preferences, like saved searches, filter selections or recently viewed listings.
📊 Analytics
Help us understand which pages and features are useful, in aggregate and anonymised form. Powered by Google Analytics.
🔗 Third-party
Set by embedded services like Google Maps or social-media widgets when they’re loaded into a page.
3. The specific cookies on TopBuyers
This is the full list of cookies TopBuyers and its core services set. Names can vary slightly by browser session.
Cookies set by third-party services you trigger (e.g. clicking a Google Map embed) are not in this list — see section 4.
4. Third-party cookies and integrations
Some pages on TopBuyers embed or load content from third-party services. When those services load, the third party may set its own cookies according to its own privacy and cookie policies — over which we have no control. The main third parties on TopBuyers are:
- Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited) — anonymous usage analytics. Google Privacy Policy · Opt out via browser add-on.
- Google Maps — when a Listing displays a map of the agent’s location, Google Maps may set cookies. Google cookies.
- Google Reviews — review content is imported and stored on our servers; no Google cookies are set unless you click an external “View on Google” link.
- YouTube (Google LLC) — if a page embeds a YouTube video, YouTube sets its own cookies once the player loads. We use the privacy-enhanced embed mode (
youtube-nocookie.com) where available. - Calendly or similar — Featured Agents may add a Calendly booking widget to their profile. Calendly sets its own cookies once loaded. Calendly Privacy.
- r.jina.ai — a content-fetching service used server-side for AI suburb-report research. This does not set cookies in your browser.
We do not embed Facebook Pixel, Meta tracking, TikTok pixel, X (Twitter) tracking, LinkedIn Insight Tag, Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, or any other behavioural-marketing tracker on TopBuyers.
5. How long cookies last
Cookies fall into two duration types:
- Session cookies — deleted automatically when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies — remain on your device for a set period (see column in the table above) or until you delete them manually.
6. How to control or disable cookies
Most browsers let you:
- Block all cookies, or only third-party cookies.
- Delete cookies that are already stored.
- Set notifications when a site tries to set a cookie.
- Open a “private” or “incognito” window that doesn’t keep cookies after closing.
Direct guides:
Important: if you block strictly-necessary cookies, parts of TopBuyers will stop working — including staying logged in, submitting enquiries, and claiming a Listing. Functional and analytics cookies can be disabled without breaking the site.
7. Do Not Track signals
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal asking sites not to track the user. There is no industry standard for how sites should respond to DNT, and the technology is no longer maintained as a web standard. We do not currently respond to DNT signals. To control tracking, please use the browser cookie controls in section 6.
8. Australian Privacy Act & international visitors
TopBuyers is based in Australia. Our handling of any personal information collected via cookies is governed by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and detailed in our Privacy Policy.
If you visit from outside Australia — including from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California — your data may be transferred to and processed in Australia, which has its own privacy framework. We rely on legitimate interest and (for analytics) your continued use of the site after seeing this policy as our lawful basis. You can object to analytics tracking at any time using the controls in section 6.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookies Policy when we add or remove cookies, change a third-party service, or in response to regulatory updates. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the current version. Material changes will be flagged on the site for a reasonable period before they take effect.
